The story of pure sync sound recording in Indian Cinema harks back to the 60s and 70s when films were shot out on location, but technology could not travel far. European Cinema however, continued to flourish and sounded as natural and real. This inspired Resul Pookutty to create the same kind of sound right here, at home. He wanted to bring back live recording and make it as specialised a job as it is globally. Building an awareness and attitude for sound post production, along with training for it became a prerogative for Resul.
Beginning with Black
When you want something deeply, the universe provides. Black came to Resul and Akhilesh in 2005 when they were craving to create breakthrough sound. Sure enough, they took this opportunity to create a sound benchmark for Indian Cinema. With Black, began a journey to bring live sound, thereby creating a space and expertise for infallible sound design in India. These visionaries heralded change and today a whole new breed of young directors and technicians is wholeheartedly embracing the technique of recording sync sound on location.
Creating Canaries
Sound captured on location is raw material. When handled meticulously in post-production, it creates such an outstanding final track, that it enhances the entire film experience like none other. It is to serve this quality of superior sound, that Resul Pookutty and Akhilesh Acharya took the initiative to set up their own state-of-the-art sound design studio – Canaries Post Sound - for film sound design work.
